REQUIREMENT

The manufacturer of railway track maintenance equipment needed to complete an inventory by an external company, so they did not have to shut down the business. The manufacturer required RGIS to provide the following:

  • A new inventory process which included verifications of variances
  • The process to take less time than the previous internal inventory of five days
  • To provide two inventories per year; a partial inventory count in June and full inventory count in December
  • Two large warehouses and a five-acre yard needed to be counted

SOLUTION

The customer partnered with RGIS to complete the wall-to-wall inventory project, and provided the following:

  • A team of experienced RGIS auditors using proprietary inventory scanners
  • RGIS Project Management to ensure the inventory project met customer requirements
  • The RGIS team accurately counted 1,000,000 pieces and completed all recounts
  • Variances confirmed and completed during the inventory project

RESULTS

The manufacturer of railway track maintenance equipment found by outsourcing the wall-to-wall inventory project to RGIS, the following was achieved:

  • The project was completed over a single weekend, using half the amount of time the customer used with the previous internal inventory process
  • RGIS accurately counted 100,000 square feet of warehouse space and a five-acre outdoor storage yard
  • The business did not have to shut down production during the work week
  • Specific recounts and variance checks were performed to ensure an accurate inventory was delivered to the customer
